As part of the Citadel activation program, the City of Ajaccio and the local public land development company Ametarra are launching two calls for creation for the 2023 season. Architects, design professionals, artists, visual artists, photographers, videographers… are invited to offer a unique vision of the site for the creation of temporary facilities in the moat of the Citadel and the production of an artistic installation linked to the theme of the Mediterranean.
For this third season of activation, the challenge is to strengthen programmatic tests, to open new spaces to the public, to offer varied events accessible to everyone in the Citadel. This year 2023 will honor the Mediterranean.
To do so, artists and design and planning professionals are invited to respond to the two calls for creation launched by the SPL Ametarra:
- A call for creation for the temporary development of the southern moat of the Citadel
- A call for visual arts creation
Temporary development of moats: Design, produce, make accessible…
In order to accommodate the various activities of the 2023 season, to open new spaces and to offer a better experience for visitors, the SPL wishes to facilitate accessibility to the moat. This call for tenders aims to select artists, architects, design and space planning professionals in order to design and ensure the production of layouts in three essential areas:
- The creation of a new access serving the moat: design and manufacture of a staircase or a ramp respecting access and safety standards, making it possible to connect the gateway from the entrance to the Citadel to the southern moat. In addition to its functional and regulatory aspect, it will be a question of proposing an artistic and architectural work in its own right in an exceptional heritage site.
- The design and manufacture of original, temporary and movable street furniture: seats, tables and bins
- Restoration of the existing sports ground
The actors of the project call on professionals to restore an artistic, unique, and original vision, which will integrate with the site and its environment, and will facilitate the uses and daily practices of the public in this exceptional place.

Call for creation “Visual Arts”
This call for artistic creation aims to select an artist to create an ephemeral installation in the public space of the Citadelle Miollis. The project will take the form of an in situ creation which will have to dialogue with the theme of the 2023 season: the Mediterranean. It will be about offering:
- The creation of one or more temporary works
- An installation visible from outside the site, which is both a signal work and an invitation for visitors to enter the Citadel Miollis
- A poetic and original reflection on the history of the site and its place in the Mediterranean
Great freedom will be granted to the winner as to the proposals for the mediums used in the context of this project (video, sound, photography, sculpture, light installation), and as far as possible. The artist will be accompanied by an exhibition curator in the conception of his work. The artistic installation will be inaugurated in June on the occasion of the hè viva 2023 launch party. The artists are asked to give the public their unique vision of this exceptional heritage site. The winner must adapt to the constraints of the site, favor short circuits and take into account the ecological impact in the production of his work.
