This new room is a jewel of technology and innovation, in particular thanks to its rotating platform which will allow spectators to change the decor and follow the action in motion. They are embarked on a gigantic tracking shot like in the cinema. With 7.500 m2 of surface, the Théâtre des Géants lives up to its name.
So for the building to be part of the Puy du Fou time travel, the architect and the craftsmen of the site had to satisfy many technical and aesthetic constraints. Like the roof, made with 120.000 CUPA PIZARRAS slates. Zoom on this extraordinary achievement.
At the Giants Theater, giant roof
On April 2, the new creation of Puy du Fou will open its doors: the Last Panache in the Théâtre des Géants. According to Laurent Albert, the general manager of Puy du Fou, "This is the biggest project in the park in terms of area, and financial, technical and artistic ambitions".
The idea of this performance hall was to have a modular stage inside which could accommodate a 360 ° show and keep an aesthetic appearance outside. It is therefore 18,5 m from the ground that stands a roof of 3.000 m2, covered with natural slate. "We favored slate in order to erase the volume of the room, and rediscover building proportions on a human scale" specifies Christophe Rabiller, the architect of the 6K cabinet.
The roofing company Le Lorec, specialized in complex building sites and certified heritage heritage, took care of: 2 creepers 170% covered in 4 mm thick slates, guaranteed for 30 years.
To meet the specifications of this site, Romuald Le Lorec, director of the roofing company, called on the world leader in natural slate: CUPA PIZARRAS.
“We work regularly with CUPA PIZARRAS, it's a question of security. We have confidence in their careers, their ability to supply us and we take no risk as to the quality of the products. ” explains Romuald Le Lorec.
For almost 4 months, CUPA PIZARRAS transported 120.000 slates to Puy du Fou, or 70 pallets of 1.5 tonnes to cover this “giant” roof.
To build this roof, the 6 mm CUPA 4,5 Excellence slate was selected: a structured stone on the surface, giving it character and an impression of thickness, characteristic of old buildings. Thus, the Théâtre des Géants is part of the architectural logic of the Puy du Fou park.
Each year, 1 out of 3 slates is delivered by CUPA PIZARRAS for individual sites, heritage monuments (many castles such as those of Saumur, Azay-le-Rideau, Coutances Cathedral, Lourdes Basilica, etc.), but also ambitious projects like that of Puy du Fou.
