10 million euros released for work to expand the Brest court

“When we hire massively, we have to accommodate our magistrates (…) So we need space,” declared the minister during a press briefing, announcing the acquisition of a 1.350 m2 building belonging to the Finistère departmental council, a few dozen meters from the court.

The 2,2 million euro acquisition will be complemented by eight million euros of renovation work, which is expected to be completed in 2028.

The minister also announced 173 additional positions within the jurisdiction of the Rennes Court of Appeal, including 58 magistrates, by 2027.

“This is very good news for the city (...) An idea from the field managed to find its way in a few months,” greeted the president (various right) of the departmental council Maël de Calan.

A regional center for environmental crimes, the Brest court is also a maritime court and a specialized coastal court (Julis), while only having two courtrooms.

“It’s cracking everywhere,” said Brest prosecutor Camille Miansoni in January, who welcomed “very good news” on Friday.

“The court is fully aware of the budgetary effort that this acquisition represents,” also declared the president of the court Manuel Delmas-Goyon, sending his “thanks” to the minister and local elected officials.
