1.200 public buildings have benefited from thermal renovation thanks to the recovery plan

One thousand two hundred buildings belonging to the State have benefited from thermal renovation as part of the funding provided for in the recovery plan, announced Monday, February 21 the Minister of Public Accounts, Olivier Dussopt.

Of around 4.000 projects selected at the end of 2020 by the government to benefit from state support, nearly “a third” have therefore been “delivered throughout France”, indicated the minister during a trip to Rennes, according to the text of his speech sent to AFP, Mr. Dussopt welcoming an "extremely satisfactory progress report".

This program to be carried out over three years plans to mobilize 2,7 billion euros, including 1,3 billion for higher education and research establishments.

This envelope was to reduce energy consumption by 400 to 500 gigawatt hours per year, but "we have already exceeded our environmental target, since the estimates made lead to a saving of 600 gigawatt hours", indicated Olivier Dussopt .

Alongside this call for projects, the government has also put 1,3 billion euros on the table to support the renovation of buildings belonging to local authorities, such as schools, and 2 billion euros via the "Ségur de la health" for nursing homes and hospitals.

To this is also added, for example, the MaPrimerénov scheme to help individuals finance work in their homes, or subsidies for small businesses that renovate their premises.

The building sector as a whole represents a quarter of French greenhouse gas emissions and successive governments are struggling to accelerate the pace of renovations to reduce this environmental footprint, particularly in housing.

The national low-carbon strategy plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings by 49% in 2030 compared to 2015, before complete decarbonization in 2050.
