Rheinzink participates in the renovation of the National Veterinary School in Maisons-Alfort

In October 2020, a vast restructuring project began at the National Veterinary School of Maisons-Alfort, with the aim of reorganizing and expanding the campus. The work was carried out by the architectural firm Art&Build, responsible for designing a new central building on the foundations of the Abel Brion building dating from 1928.

The work started with an asbestos removal phase, followed by the demolition of part of the Abel Brion building. The foundations were preserved in order to construct the AGORA building, the cornerstone of the project.

In order to respect the color scheme of the campus, the monolithic appearance of the building and the use of biosourced materials, the architectural firm wanted to use wood, re-use the 10.000 solid bricks from the demolition, but also use RHEINZINK zinc. This last element, in RHEINZINK-GRANUM phosphated surface, was used to create openings in the different spaces, while perfectly respecting the general aesthetic of the project.

Three distinct parts of the building were constructed using zinc:

• The roofs of the main and secondary entrance of the AGORA building were treated with zinc on the underside. For the secondary entrance, zinc was applied in cassette cladding and standing seam roofing.
• For two balconies, zinc is used in cladding, where each is equipped with a cassette system with a width of 40 cm. This configuration brings both an aesthetic and functional dimension to the entire project.
• Awnings, 1,50 m high, were integrated into the standing seam roof. This combination provides both an aesthetic function and protection against external elements.

The site was a real challenge, particularly on very technical elements requiring numerous cuts. To facilitate the work of the five roofers present on the site, RHEINZINK carried out a pre-study, as well as all the necessary layouts.
