Today, a veranda is a true living space, open to the outside, generally heated, furnished, and perfectly integrated into the house. A structure in its own right, the veranda can – and in many cases, must – achieve the same performance in terms of habitability and comfort as a conventional building: roofing techniques, vertical walls, stability, connections with the main structure, connections with the ground, winter thermal performance, summer thermal performance, water tightness, air permeability, acoustic performance, security, electrical installation, accessibility, etc.
These are all significant constraints that must be met to obtain a quality product that achieves the expected performance, respects the intended use, and prevents problems.
When it comes to conservatories, the quality of use and livability of the resulting space essentially depends on the quality of the building envelope. This new edition takes into account the evolving best practices of the profession. It offers a review of current standards and regulations, on the one hand, and of the requirements for the thermal design of conservatories, on the other.
This guide focuses on the veranda's structure, its design, location, manufacturing, installation, and maintenance. It is based on the professional standards for "Aluminum-framed verandas" published by the SNFA and the rules for issuing certificates of conformity for veranda system designs, developed by the CSTB.
